The features of stretch films

Stretch films are made of plastic materials of widely varying quality and characteristics. Depending on each company’s specific needs and the type of load to be shipped, the stretch wrap must be assessed on the basis of

  • Elastic modulus, which measures its stiffness and therefore its ability to wrap tightly
  • Yield point, which indicates beyond what level of elongation the deformation becomes irreversible
  • Breaking stress, which signals the maximum tension the film withstands before snapping
  • Elongation at break, which indicates the maximum percentage of stretch beyond which the film tears
  • Stretch capacity, which measures how far the film can be stretched without tearing
  • Recovery capacity, which measures how well the film can tighten around the products after being stretched
  • Strength and impermeability, which measure the film’s ability to protect the load
  • Softness, which measures how comfortable and easy the film is to apply

Machine stretch films

Machine stretch films or automatic stretch films come as rolls of stretch wrap loaded onto dedicated robots or turntables, devices that then automatically wrap the loads on the pallets. This very fast solution proves particularly efficient in companies that handle large shipping volumes.

Manual stretch films

Manual stretch film is sold in rolls of film that the operator wraps around the pallets using a dedicated lightweight hand dispenser, and is suited to companies with modest shipping volumes.
