Professional packaging: the various types available on the market
Why choose good-quality packaging?
The first real question about packaging is why it’s necessary to use the right kind, and above all good quality.
Packaging is a means used to preserve the integrity of the goods inside them; the methods used to pack and keep goods safe are manifold , and in this article we’ll show some types and the advantages of each.
Let’s start by saying that good packaging allows for an undamaged shipment , with the benefit of avoiding tiresome returns or complaints, which tend to lower the customer’s regard for us, or worse, bring us bad reviews.
Which packaging preserves the goods, and which to choose?
Corrugated paper:
Corrugated paper is a very common type of packaging material; its composition is as simple as it is effective in numerous applications and suited to protecting a wide range of products.
This particular type of paper can be made in various ways; the simplest consists of joining three sheets. The first sheet is called the liner and is rigid and flat; the second sheet, on the other hand, is corrugated and sits in the middle, while the third and last sits underneath, enclosing the corrugated one and forming our corrugated paper.
The three sheets are joined together with natural adhesives that allow them to stay perfectly in place. There are also more complex corrugated papers, with additional layers of cardboard between corrugated and flat ones; on this basis we have single- or triple-wall.
Usually this type of paper is used to make boxes able to hold objects, even glass ones, and preserve their integrity.
The strength of this type of cardboard comes from its composition: the inner flute in fact provides good rigidity to the two outer liners, which in this way protect the contents.
Bubble wrap:
This material is also called bubble film and has, besides its much-praised stress-relieving properties, real, undeniable protective abilities, which make it a heavily used tool in the packaging sector.
These sheets are made purely of plastic and are covered, across their whole surface, with air bubbles.
This handy covering was created to secure the objects placed inside a box or similar, creating an additional protective barrier to defend our product.
The reasons to choose this type of protection are manifold; the first is certainly to have extra protection so you can sleep soundly during shipping.
Number two, but no less important, is the space it takes up: being made of plastic, it is really adaptable and compact, so it can wrap any object.
Third, the chance to choose the one best suited to your needs and above all your budget. By carefully choosing the parameters, you can pick the one best suited to your needs.
The parameters are:
- Weight (gsm)
- Size of the surface bubbles
By choosing a finer weight, for example, you can get a considerable cost saving as well as optimising warehouse storage space.
Bubble wrap lets you increase the safety of every package quickly and easily, protecting small and large objects that can withstand any type of shipment.
American (RSC) boxes:
When we talk about packaging – whether the item to ship is large or small – everyone always thinks of the classic cardboard box.
American (RSC) boxes are the essence of transport since they have all the features needed to do it effectively.
When you look for a product that is sturdy and easy to transport, the choice will always fall on this type of box, whose composition is as simple as it is effective.
It is made from a single sheet of corrugated paper, which can in turn be single- or double-wall, folded so as to form a container.
Usually the bottom is pre-glued, to save the company time, but they are often ordered only shaped and folded, to save warehouse space.
The peculiarity and convenience of this type of box is the possibility of being customisable and so made to measure for any shipping need.
A further advantage comes from their cost, which always stays low given the simplicity of the materials they are made of.
Using this type of box also allows a saving, since they can be recycled and reused so as to gain further benefit.
